I usually start the day by looking at the latest weather and computer models to get an idea of what has happened overnight and to look at the day ahead.
I am not liking what I am seeing this morning. A few of the models have a tropical cyclone close to South Florida in the next week. Grrrr....
Today I take care of the landscaping. Trim the palms, mow the grass, etc. Why on a Friday you ask? So I can watch football this weekend of course!
Once the landscaping is done it's time for my daily 5 mile run.
That smile is because I am done! Now time to shower, shave and run some errands.
First stop...haircut with Didier!
Now it's time for the drive to work. I spend a lot of time in the car. I have a 40 mile commute since we moved into our facility in Pembroke Park.
I pass the time by listening to 790 The Ticket everyday. I love sports so I'm usually listening to sports talk and watching ESPN.
It's a rainy commute today in South Florida. 60 percent chance of rain!
Finally here! This is our beautiful facility in Pembroke Park. Now the trick is to find a good parking spot.
WPLG is one of 6 television stations owned by Post-Newsweek Stations.
This is our newsroom. The weather office is in the back to the far right in this picture.
Time to put on the make up. This is the worst part of my day. I hate it, but in high definition you would hate it more if I didn't put it on!
See how happy I look about the whole process!
Powdering the nose...literally.
Now the tie. I'm not a fan of these either.
Aliana is our weather producer and designer. She is the reason our graphics look so good. I work with her daily behind the scenes developing new graphics and getting the shows ready.
Here is hurricane specialist Max Mayfield! He looks at a lot of maps during the week! Here he is analyzing steering currents around Tropical Storm Matthew.
The latest computer model runs are in. Max and I spend a lot of time looking these over on a daily basis.
This is our server room in the weather office. This room holds all the computers and satellite equipment that we use to receive and process all of our weather data.
Here I am building the graphics for the 6 p.m. show. We have a lot of computers here in the office!!!
Here is the 7 day forecast. The weekend looks ok, not great...but hey it's the weekend!
In the afternoon I always talk to Michelle. She is the producer for the 6 p.m. show. I can see her through the office window and we always wave!
Now it's off to the control room to talk with our director Dan.
I spend a few minutes with him every day coordinating shots for the newscast and chatting about our Sunday softball team.
Today is Friday so Max and I have our "Hurricane House Call" segment that airs at 11 p.m. Here I am in the editing booth with Ozzie tracking the audio for the piece.
The 5 o'clock advisory is in for Tropical Storm Matthew. Max and I build the graphics and look over all the latest information.
This is Max and me on the set going over a few last minute details before the show.
It's time for 6 p.m. show to begin. This is my view from the weather wall. Calvin and Laurie sitting at the anchor desk.
Max is to my left at his weather set.
And Mike is to my right running the teleprompter for the anchors. The meteorologists don't have a teleprompter. We ad-lib our forecasts in front of the green screen.
This is me delivering the forecast for the upcoming weekend in front of the green screen. Nothing but a big green wall, but you can see the final product in the monitor behind me! Nothing like a little television magic.
Here is the crew...Calvin Hughes, Laurie Jennings and me. Will Manso is off tonight, but we have Andrea Brody with sports coming up in a few minutes.
After the 6 o'clock show I always change out of my suit into shorts and a t-shirt. I'm a lot more comfortable like this and more productive around the office! This is usually how I walk in too.
I spend the evening building graphics, doing maintenance on all the computers, paperwork and answering e-mails. Here I am updating graphics on justweather.com
It's a busy night in the weather office. But I have to make time for a quick dinner. Tonight it is fine dining... morningstar chicken patties fresh from the microwave.
Every night I always chat sports with Will Manso or Andrea Brody. Tonight, Andrea and I watch a little college football. I wonder if she will switch me jobs for the night?
Tonight I'm making a quick ice cream run to Publix!
We usually find an excuse every week to have ice cream. Tonight's excuse... it's Friday! Why not!
A happy news team!
One more show before the weekend! I really enjoy working with Calvin and Laurie. We have a great team here at Local 10.
It's time for this weeks Hurricane House Call!
The week is over! Time to leave WPLG and head home.
You know what that means... more sports radio on the way home!
