If I bring my trainer coffee, she might forgive me for all the mornings I miss!
She's so tiny, I can bench press her! But she's tough too!
Trina is the queen of pilates, so she keeps me "lean and mean" -- hah!
As long as I don't fall -- we're good!
I try for 3x a week, but if I make it to the gym even 1 or 2x -- it's huge!
And you never know what strange positions you'll find me in!
Thank goodness for satellite radio -- only way to keep up on the news all morning long.
Next stop -- "Avant-Garde Salon" in the Gables -- my second home!
Hilda did makeup at my wedding 7 yrs ago, and she still keeps me "in style!"
Hicham is the best! He can do my hair in about 8 minutes flat if he has to!
And if I can read the paper *and* get my hair done in 1 stop -- bonus!
Just part of the Avant-Garde gang that's taken care of me for almost 12 years! They're the best!
Off to Publix -- Siles is one of the biggest Local 10 fans around, so he always stops to say hello!
With 2 growing boys at home -- I feel like I *live* at Publix + Whole Foods!
Have to hurry -- if I'm not in the school pickup lane by 1 p.m. -- I'm in trouble!
Finally get to pick up my twin boys, Luke and Jake, from pre-school.
Love to hear about their day + their new friends + karate class!
Have to turn from CNN to the "Kids Channel" for the next hour -- it's our time to hang out before mom goes to work.
Our state-of-the-art Local 10 newsroom, and it never sleeps, people buzzing 24/7 here!
By 3:30 p.m. every weekday, I'm in the makeup room to "get my face on"!
Everyone thinks we have a crew of makeup + hair people, but we all do it ourselves!
Constantly checking the news channels for afternoon updates and the latest info.
I'm famous for my afternoon Diet Coke -- an admitted caffeine junkie!
Have to try to vary the earrings and jewelry, or I'll just throw on my favorites every night.
Constantly checking my blackberry for emails, news updates or texts from the babysitter.
Some viewers prefer to call directly + leave a message -- maybe a story idea, a call for help..
.. or just a call to say "hello" and "we love Local 10" -- gotta love those calls!
There's always a stack of newspapers + magazines to get through -- especially the political articles leading up to election day!
It's not really an "office", more of a cubicle, but I have a window to see the weather + I can hear when there's breaking news!
With a glance to the many screens + what our competition's doing -- it's off to the studio.
Producer Erika Medel helps me get "hooked-up" to shoot a promotional spot to tease a story for tomorrow.
She's always open to ideas + changes -- whatever will grab our viewers' attention.
With a countdown of "3, 2, 1".. we're taping.
This is what the script looks like in the prompter -- the trick is not to look like you're reading!
Past the edit booths + back to the makeup room to change clothes for another shoot.
Get ready -- I change clothes a *lot*!
Some different earrings will help me look like it's a different day.
And off we go to find producer #2.
It's Michael Parente -- promo man extraordinaire!!
.. and he needs me to talk about elections + why Local 10's coverage stands out.
We use Michael Putney's set for this shoot -- just to have a different look.
Changing again -- I think this is #3 -- and the afternoon has just begun!
From 4:30 - 6 p.m., it's a constant back + forth to the studio to shoot teases and updates before our 6 newscast.
Calvin and I really should just wear rollerblades.
.. with all the trips from our desks to the studio.
And these 3 guys make it all fun + easy -- how lucky am I to work with Will, Calvin + Trent?
After the 6 p.m. show, our 11 p.m. producer, Michael, runs down the stories we're working for the late news. He and I go way back to Channel 7 days together!
Outfit #4 is the best -- comfy sweats. On a good night, I can run home in between shows to see my boys!
It's a mad dash, but I can sometimes make it to put them to sleep.
At least if I'm in wash + wear clothing, they can't ruin my outfit before the late news!
Ahhh.. now that's what I call a "double hug"!
They're only 4 + 1/2, so they talk over each other + pull me in two directions!
But I love to hear about their afternoon at the park..
.. and what they want to do before bed -- usually watch something with superheros!
Everything is doubly yummy in 2's!
This is Luke..
.. and this is Jake. I can tell just by the way they hug!
By 9 p.m., it's back in the car + back to the station. I put about 500 miles a week on my car!
Ready for change #5? This is crazy, isn't it?
Back to "Newslady" + ready for business!
Another check with our producer, Michael, lets us know of any late-breaking news.
.. and then it's back to the studio for more promos and tapings.
Shhhh.. the light means "quiet on the set".
We have computers built in to our newsdesk, so we can read + edit scripts while we're in between shoots.
And the "bat phone" is always next to us if we need to talk to the director or control room!
Calvin wears the greatest ties and handkerchiefs.
I gave him this one for his birthday -- if only I knew how to fix it!
Not even close -- but he's a good sport, so he's leaving it!
And the show wouldn't come together without Mike -- a long-time engineer who keeps the studio running.
"Dan the Man" is our director -- the one who literally calls the shots during the show (so don't make him mad)!
And if there's time before the late show to goof off, Will Manso's your guy. Always up for a laugh or a great Facebook shot!
Calvin and I joke + rev up each other for the 11 p.m. news -- it's late, but this is when we need the most energy!
And I get to end each night with "the other men" in my life -- shhh, don't tell my husband.
It's back to my sweats when most have gone home, and finally a chance to respond to emails + Facebook.
12:30 a.m., maybe 1 or 1:30 most mornings before I head out.. like most working moms.. this is my only "alone time" to get things done.
So if you get one of my 2 a.m. emails -- you'll know I'm really here -- at my desk at Local 10 -- probably in my sweats!
