Police say a 17-year-old who aspired to be a police officer and who was a member of the Explorers was killed in a struggle with a robber who was trying to take his jewelry.

Investigators said Evan Page and Joseph Guy were waiting in a Checkers drive-through Tuesday night when an armed man approached the vehicle. He robbed Guy, who was driving the car, and then went around to the passenger side of the car where Page was sitting, according to police.

He opened the door, and when he tried to grab Page's jewelry, the 17-year-old resisted. The robber fired, hitting Page at point-blank range.

Page was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died early Wednesday morning.

Guy, 29, was not injured.

Police are still searching for the gunman.

Page's grandmother, Luelle Page, said that she will fast for 40 days and 40 nights to see justice for her grandson.

Page was a member of the Explorers, a group sponsored by the Boy Scouts and the Miami-Dade Police Department. Former Police Chief and now County Mayor Carlos Alvarez was once a member of the Explorers.
