FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

A Coral Springs builder and his son, who are both accused of making illegal deals with a former commissioner, are scheduled for a change-of-plea hearing Thursday.

Bruce Chait, 61, and his 36-year-old son, Shawn Chait, were arrested in December on charges of bribery, unlawful compensation and perjury.

The charges stem from allegations that the Chaits made illegal deals with former Broward County Commissioner Josephus Eggelletion, including bribing him to approve their development plans.

Prosecutors said the pair also bribed Tamarac Commissioner Patricia Atkins-Grad, who was arrested in June and has since been suspended from office.
