MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The Miami Beach City Commission named a new city manager Wednesday.
The commission named Jimmy Morales, the current Doral city attorney, to the post Wednesday.
"Immediately restore some public trust in this government," he said. "Really focus on integrity issues, accountability issues, transparency. Secondly, I need to restore some morality among employees, inspire them, have their backs, let them know we want them to do the best they can and give them some leadership."
Born and raised in Miami Beach, Morales was emotional during his acceptance speech, explaining how this was a homecoming for him.
The city has been without a permanent top administrator since Jorge Gonzalez resigned amid a corruption probe.
For the last eight months, Kathie Brooks served as interim city manager. She was given a standing ovation for her service.
