America's all-star Olympic women's basketball team won its fifth consecutive gold medal in the women's basketball finals against France Saturday afternoon in London by a score of 86-50.
American teams had won four straight golds and 40 consecutive games coming into Saturday's final, winning most of their games this year by 30 to 40 points.
The French can't claim the healthy winning margins of the Americans, nor can they boast the likes of Diana Taurasi, Candace Parker or Maya Moore.
But in only their second trip to the Olympics they have won each of their seven contests to reach the finals by an average 8-point margin and toppled Russia in the semi-finals.
While the U.S. men's basketball team with its NBA-laden roster gets far more press, the U.S. women's team has been more dominant on the world stage, losing only once to Russia in 1996.
Australia defeated Russia earlier in the day to take the bronze medal.
