WPLG Editorial: Building community in South Florida

MIAMI – Some of the best parts of South Florida are the parks and playgrounds where families can meet up and children can play.

We recently happened upon a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood whose park was nothing more than three empty lots.

And we're about to change that.

The land has been there for decades, called Gratigny Plateau Park. But the county never developed the park -- short money, resources and a cry-out from a community all too accustomed to bureaucracy.

Now, with the participation of those neighbors, Local 10 is spearheading the development of Gratigny Plateau Park as a fun, relaxing meeting place, especially for all the kids in the neighborhood.

And what was so great about starting the project is the outpouring we received from all over South Florida from people wanting to get involved -- like Miller Construction and others.

This will be a big team effort. That's what building community is all about.
