Woman killed in drive-by shooting identified

Miami Police: Victim shot multiple times

MIAMI – A 37-year-old woman was killed in a drive-by shooting in Miami's Model City neighborhood.

Kandie Gill was shot several times in the 1200 block of NW 53rd Street about 8 p.m. Monday, say Miami Police.

According to police, Gill was walking along the sidewalk with a friend when a gunman opened fire from a vehicle that pulled up next to them.

"I was all on the ground, trying to get down in the house," said Vivian Frazier. "I was laying down here on the floor. I thought I was shot - was dead or whatever."

"I seen her on the ground, laying down, bleeding," said LaSandra Walker. "We walked outside. She was laying on the ground. Looked like she was trying to breathe and they asked her if she wanted some water and everything, and, that's it."

Gill was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she died early Tuesday.

"It's a shame that that happened in our neighborhood because it's such a nice neighborhood, and it make you not want to stay here no more," said Walker.

Police sources told Local 10 Crime Specialist John Turchin that Gill has teenage son who may be involved in gang violence in the area.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
