MIAMI – A Miami-Dade Circuit judge raised the bail of a woman accused of hitting a man -- severing his leg -- and driving away.
Johanna Cabrera faces several charges, including leaving the scene of a crash with injuries. On Wednesday, she went before Judge Jeffrey Rosinek for two misdemeanor counts she faces.
He raised her bail to $15,000 on each count. When Cabrera's public defender asked him review the case, he agreed, but later declined to to change his earlier decision.
"What you did is to leave the scene. It shows, to the court, that you just don't care for other people," said Rosinek.
Cabrera, 31, was driving a SUV that hit two men, Ismael Martinez (pictured below) and Fidel Duarte, as they stood next to their parked pick-up truck near Southwest 64th Terrace and 8th Street about 7:25 a.m. Monday, police say.
Martinez, who had his leg reattached during surgery, was listed in critical condition. Duarte suffered minor injuries.
Police found Cabrera's SUV at Northwest 64th Avenue and 3rd Street with the help of a witness, according to an arrest affidavit. She later turned herself in to police.
"Defendant stated what had occurred with the crash and stated that she did not know that she had hit a human being and displayed great sorrow and remorse," read the arrest affidavit.
