The federal government recently released its 16th annual report on school safety. Among the highlights was data listing the states where students bring weapons to school most often. These states are among the worst offenders, according to data from 2011:
Arkansas -- 6.5 percent of students in grades 9-12 reported carrying a weapon at least once in the previous month
New Mexico -- 6.5 percent
Connecticut -- 6.5 percent
Maine -- 8 percent
Alabama -- 8.2 percent
Georgia -- 8.6 percent
Vermont -- 9.1 percent
Montana -- 9.3 percent
Wyoming -- 10.5 percent
