Chris Cuomo leaving ABC News for CNN

ABC News "20/20" anchor Chris Cuomo is leaving the network for CNN, where he is expected to host a new morning show. David Muir will take his place as co-anchor with Elizabeth Vargas.
It's the second high-profile defection from ABC to CNN in a little more than a month as new CNN boss Jeff Zucker works on building a new team. Jake Tapper left ABC at the end of December, and he's developing his own evening show for CNN.
Cuomo was the newsreader at ABC's "Good Morning America" for several years, but he was passed over for a bigger role on the network's top-rated morning show.
"Chris has been a unique voice at the anchor desk and a valued colleague and friend. We’ll miss his energy, commitment and humor and we wish him the very best in this new venture," said ABC News President Ben Sherwood in an email Tuesday.
Muir will continue to anchor "World News" on weekends and will substitute for Diane Sawyer and report during the week, according to Sherwood.
"David has a true talent for connecting with our viewers, and his award-winning reporting will now find a new home at '20/20.' I’m delighted he’s bringing his ample storytelling skills to Friday nights in primetime, where Elizabeth and the team are delivering the biggest audience in years," said Sherwood.
