'Dancing' switch ups both successful, awkward

Meryl Davis earns near-perfect score with switch partner

LOS ANGELES – It was the big switch night Monday on Dancing With The Stars, where celebrities switched professional partners for week four of the competition.

Many of the new pairings looked forced, except for Olympic figure skater Meryl Davis who got a near-perfect score with new partner Val Chmerkovsky.

"Keeping it in the family," Davis said since her normal partner is the other Chmerkovsky, Maks.  Davis and Val got a 39 out of 40 for their Argentine tango.  Combined with her score last week with Maks, Davis is leading the pack with a total of 78 out of 80.

Maks got switched with actress Danica McKellar.  Their jive seemed forced, according to guest judge and former DWTS two-time winner, Julianne Hough, who accused Maks of "phoning it in."  Ouch.  McKellar's combined score is 68.

Coming in second, is singer James Maslow with a combined total of 71.  He scored a 35 this week for his tango with switch partner Cheryl Burke.

Amy Purdy also wowed the judges and crowd with her salsa with switch partner Mark Ballas.  She is in third place with a total combined score of 70.

There was no elimination this week because of the partner switch.

But, have no fear.  All celebrities will go back to their normal partners next week when the theme will be Disney.
