Thousands flock to celebrate pop culture at Florida Supercon festival in Miami Beach

Stars of 'Game of Thrones' and 'Spartacus' are some of the celebrities at the fiction and fantasy festival

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – In a world of winged characters and super powers, Captain America and Pokemon were some of the most popular costumes at the Miami Beach Convention Center Friday.

Areas of South Beach felt like Halloween, as thousands of people in costumes flocked to participate in the ninth annual Florida Supercon, a growing popular sci-fi convention, held for the first time in Miami Beach.

The multidimensional festival started Thursday and ends Sunday. The highlights of the event included an opportunity to meet the popular "Game of Thrones" actor Jason Momoa, who plays Khal Drogo, and actress Esmé Bianco, who plays Ros.

CELEBRITIES: Eight members from the cast of "Spartacus" will reunite at the convention at 4:30 p.m., Friday. The group includes the beautiful Katrina Law, Anna Hutchison and Ellen Hollman. Manu Bennett played the Gallic gladiator Crixus. Liam McIntyre played Spartacus. Daniel Feuerriegel played Agron. Nick Tarabay played Ashur. Stephen Dunlevy played The Egyptian. ANIMATION AND HEROES: Organizers were giving fans opportunities to mingle with celebrities from popular shows like the CW's "Arrow" and "The Power Rangers." There were also voice actors from Walt Disney and cartoon shows such as "Attack on Titan," the "Regular Show" and "Borderlands 2." Click here for Arrow schedule of events.

GAMERS: Sony PlayStation had a strong presence, but participants were also able to play with arcade classics at a vintage gaming lounge. Die Gute Fabrik, a Danish game developer, is presenting four new games. Other new games include "Crypt of the NecroDancer" and "Starship Artemis," which is a flight simulator. FILM FESTIVAL: Every day there will be several film screenings. On Thursday, the highlight was "Scarlet Samurai: Incarnation." On Friday, a showing of "Legend of the Reaper" will be held at 10 p.m. On Saturday,  "My Mother's Jade" will screen at 6:30 p.m. Click here for the film festival's event schedule.

SEXY: Models, known in the sub-culture as "Cosplayers" or "Supergirls" were also part of the convention. The social media stars expected include Danny Cozplay, Envy Us Deviant, Harley's Love Shack, Ms. Riot, Megan Coffey, Natalia Kindigo, Sandmuffin, and Veron. Click here for the Cosplayer schedule.

CAREERS: Marvel Comics representatives were onsite to review portfolios. Director Tom Cook talked about animation and cartoon production. Flux-Fiction and others had sessions about writing comic books, manga and graphic novels. Click here for a list of events about science fiction story tellers.

INFORMATION: Convention hours are Friday from 10 a.m. to midnight, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Sunday, and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets for the three days are $70 and $30 a day.
