ORLANDO, Fla. -

A large, metal gorilla statue valued at $5,000 was stolen from a hotel in the tourist district of Orlando.

The gorilla was taken sometime from The Metropolitan Express at 6323 International Drive.

According to an Orlando police event sheet, the statue was stolen late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

The hotel does not have video surveillance cameras, and the pool gates are commonly left open to allow access to the poolside tiki bar, police said.

The hotel's website showed a poolside image of a gorilla statue, which appeared to be about 3 feet tall.  It's not known how much it weighs.

Anyone with information about the gorilla's whereabouts is urged to call Orlando police.
