1 arrested in Weston home burglaries

WESTON, Fla. – A man has been arrested in connection with three home burglaries that were reported Monday morning in Weston, Broward sheriff's deputies said.

Matthew Hamilton was found by deputies crouching in brushes just minutes from the 600 block of Spinnaker, where the latest burglary was reported, authorities said.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said Hamilton broke into the home about 8 a.m. through a window while the people inside were sleeping.

A burglary was also reported just before 5 a.m. at a home in the 500 block of Spinnaker, and before that a burglary was reported just before 3 a.m. at a home in the 16900 block of Royal Poinciana Drive. 

Various electronic devices and jewelry were stolen from the homes. Carter said people were inside sleeping during each of the burglaries.

Schools in the area were briefly placed on lockdown while deputies worked to capture the suspect.

Hamilton has an arrest history involving burglaries and drugs that goes back to 2009. He was most recently arrested on September 27 on charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling, possession of burglary tools, grand theft, resisting without violence and loitering.

Hamilton now faces charges of burglary of an occupied dwelling and loitering.
