Police in Hialeah arrest a 28-year-old man charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash.

HIALEAH, Fla. -

Police in Hialeah on Monday arrested a 28-year-old man charged in a fatal hit-and-run crash.

Police charged Henry Paz with leaving the scene of a crash involving death and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury.

"This was a very violent accident, very violent scene, very graphic," said Hialeah Police Sgt. Eddie Rodriguez.

About 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Paz lost control of his car and hit a bus bench where two people were sitting at West 16th Avenue and 49th Street, police said. According to an arrest affidavit, the tire on Paz's car blew out before the crash.

He then drove away and was arrested about one mile away from the intersection, police said.

A man in his 50s was killed. His name wasn't immediately released.

Jonathan Cordero, 24, was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. His sister said he was on his way home from work.

"My mom saw it on TV and she's like, 'Where's my son? I've been calling him all day. I can't find him,'" said Natalie Cordero. "She told my sisters to go to the accident scene to see if it was him and it was him."

Natalie Cordero said her brother (pictured left) had his legs severed in the crash.

"He's critical but he's going to live," she said. "That's the best part. We are happy about that. He's going to live and he is going to recover, but he's very serious right now."

Paz told an officer he had been drinking prior to the crash, police said.

"I think that is so irresponsible, such an irresponsible thing to do," said Natalie Cordero. "How could you be so careless to other people's lives?"

Paz may face more charges.
