CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – One person is dead and another was taken to the hospital after they were struck by a car in Coral Springs on Friday night in the 2400 block of University Drive, officials said.
When officers arrived they found Jose Gutierrez, 22, and Tyler Sanders-Nielson, 20, laying in the road and the vehicle that hit the two men, which was driven by James Mulhearn.
Police said they Mulhearn was traveling was traveling south on North University Drive when Gutierrez and Sanders-Nielson attempted to cross the road mid-block. The two were struck by the vehicle and landed on opposite sides of North University Drive.
Gutierrez was pronounced dead at the scene and Sanders-Nielson was air-lifted to Broward Health North with life-threatening injuries.
Mulhearn was not injured in the accident.
