120 exotic cars take part in Gumball 3000 Road Rally

Drivers traveling from Miami to Ibiza, Spain

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Ocean Drive is growling with horsepower, as it is the starting point for the Gumball 3000 Road Rally.

One hundred and twenty exotic cars will drive 3,000 miles in a week, from Miami to Atlanta, and then to New York City. Cars and drivers will then board private jets, and fly to Scotland. From there, they will drive to London, Paris, Barcelona and then finish in Ibiza, Spain.

The event is a modern-day version of the classic movie, "Cannonball Run," except this rally has even more horsepower and high priced hardware.

"Something in excess of $90 million in total is the value of all the cars on the grid," said John Marcar, a Gumball 3000 spokesperson.

The rally started in 1999 as an underground road trip with some friends, but today it is a global brand. This year, two Russian models will drive a limited edition Lamborghini for the dating website Anastasiadate.com

"With two drivers they will be able to switch off, and the car goes fast so it is not going to take as long as you think," said Lewis Goldberg, a spokesperson for Anastasiadate.com.

The rally also raises money for charity, raking in over a million dollars last year alone.

"We built skate parks with Tony Hawk and the Tony Hawk Foundation," said Marcar. "We are building a school in South Africa with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, all focusing on aspiring youth charities."
