Jacob Rivera dies days after being shot

Neighbors said Rivera most recently lived in an apartment in the 5800 block of McKinley Street with his older brother, who he had a troubled relationship with.

"On the Fourth of July, we were out here lighting the fireworks with the kids and they had a big brawl with each other and they were out here shooting each other," said Eddie Burns.

Friends said Rivera dropped out of Attucks Middle School. It's unclear where his parents are.

"It's sad to hear that a young life is lost because kids don't know how to control their anger or they fight over the smallest things they don't need to fight over," said Liz Hollingsworth. "It's just sad."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 954-967-HELP or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
