17-year-old girl killed in Hialeah car crash

Driver injured after car slams into tree

HIALEAH, Fla. – A car crash in Hialeah has left a teenager dead.

Police told Local 10 News that a 1995 Buick ran off the road on West 28th Avenue between Northwest 112th Avenue and West 60th Street about 1:15 a.m. Thursday.

Hialeah police said the car slammed into a tree, bounced off of it and then smashed into another tree. The impact killed Natasha Gutierrez, 17, who was a passenger in the car.

Danyelo Rivalta, 18, who was driving the car, was injured and airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is listed in stable condition.

For more than six hours, West 28th Avenue was shut down while investigators sifted through debris. Some residents who live at an apartment complex nearby said they heard the crash.

"I was just watching TV in my room and I heard a big impact," Jan said. "I went running outside and called 911. All this was the pieces of the car and I looked at my car and it was affected too."

Despite the damage to his car, Jan said he was more concerned about the crash victims.

"The woman was underneath the car and there was a man inside who was bleeding-- he looked like he was OK," Jen Morgado said.

"Did he say anything?" Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden asked.

"No, not really," Morgado said.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but Morgado said he talked with a witness who saw it all happen.

"They told me they were making a left, and when they were about to hit the minivan, the car lost control and started doing flips and hit the tree," Morgado said.
