2 men shot in front of Opa-locka barber shop

Victims taken to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Two men were taken to the hospital after being shot in front of an Opa-locka barber shop, police said.

The double shooting happened Saturday in the 2000 block of Opa-locka Boulevard.

A witness who didn't want to be identified said it was about 7:30 p.m. when she heard the pops of gunfire at the busy strip mall.

"Just heard a bunch of shooting. We didn't know which way to run because we didn't know where the shots were coming from," the witness said. "I heard about a good six -- about six -- shots. It was louder than a firecracker. I knew it wasn't no firecracker."

She said two men ran out and fell on the floor just across the barber shop. Police identified the victims as Brandon Navarrete, 20, and Harvey Moise, 23.

A pair of shoes, some bloody clothes and a baseball cap were seen in the parking lot where one of the men collapsed.

Opa-locka police spokesman David Chiverton said both victims were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

"The Spanish guy was moving," the witness said. "The black guy -- he didn't look like he was going to make it."

About an hour after the shooting, around 8:30 p.m., police scrambled.

"Witnesses expressed their sighting of who they believed was a suspect, so our police pursued that," Chiverton said.

Police were told to be on the lookout for a blue Honda spotted by witnesses near the scene. Local 10 News is told they found the car near Northwest 17th Avenue and 140th Street.

Police took three people into custody for questioning, but they have since been released.

"We're really concerned about this," Chiverton said. "Our police is going to pursue aggressively any evidence or information that we get to make sure we bring these culprits to justice."
