259 rodent droppings found in Miami restaurant

El Chalet Restaurant Cafeteria ordered shut

MIAMI – An inspector with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation found 259 rodent droppings inside a restaurant last week, according to a state report.

The inspector noted 14 violations at El Chalet Restaurant Cafeteria, which was the only South Florida restaurant ordered shut last week.

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found (30) dried and (1) semi fresh in a storage room. (28) more dried droppings found in the rear food prep room. (200 ) more droppings found on top of a walk in freezer and reach in cooler, also located in the rear food prep room. (20-30) of the (200 ) droppings were fresh. Totaling (259 ), some fresh , some dried."

"No proof of required state approved employee training provided for any employees."

"Food manager certification expired."
