3-year-old drowns in Coral Springs

Child followed mother outside without her knowledge, police say

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A 3-year-old boy drowned in the pool outside his family's Coral Springs home Wednesday night.

Paramedics were called to the home at 4016 NW 76th Ave. about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, the child followed his mother outside when she went to do yard work and fell into the pool. She told them she had not been outside more than four minutes when she found him in the pool.

"The father immediately jumped in, pulled out the small child and started performing CPR," Coral Springs police Lt. Bradley McKeone said.

Paramedics rushed the child to Broward Health Coral Springs, where he was pronounced dead.

Neighbors said the boy had one older brother who was also home at the time.

No other details were immediately released.
