On Jan. 25, detectives conducted surveillance of Brindle's movements. Investigators said he was pulled over near I-95 and Commercial Boulevard once he was in possession of the pills.

The Broward Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs and the Public Corruption Task Force said Brindle used his position as a BSO detective and intimidation to obtain eight oxycodone pills.

He was booked into the BSO Main Jail on one count of possession of a controlled substance.

Brindle had been working as a detective in the City of Pompano Beach for seven years. He had been previously employed at BSO from September 1997 until July 2004.  He was rehired in April of 2005.

Brindle is currently suspended with pay pending prosecution by the State Attorney's Office, authorities said.
