Miami-Dade Traffic Homicide Detectives are investigating a county bus crash that killed an elderly woman walking across the street in Aventura.
It happened at the intersection of 199th Street and NE 29th Place Thursday evening around 6:15.
"She went to the movies, said an unidentified man who told Local 10's Baron James that he was her son-in-law. "And she stopped at Publix on her way home."
Police allowed the man to pickup the victim's grocery bags that had been scattered in the street right near the marked crosswalk that she took her final footsteps just a couple blocks from her home.
"Was this a route she took all the time?" asked James.
"When did you last talk to her?" James asked
"Early this afternoon," answered the man.
"Tell us something about your mother-in-law. What kind of person was she?" James asked.
"Well, to give you an idea, she enjoyed volunteering at the shul here," said the man. "I've got to tell her daughter."
On Friday morning, relatives identified the woman as 85-year-old Barbara Rubenstein.
Police were going to review the traffic camera video from the intersection to determine what led to the fatal crash.
