Charges pending in fatal crash

Charges are pending against the driver involved in a crash that killed a 10-year-old boy.
The crash happened on the northbound Homestead Extension exit ramp to Florida's Turnpike about 7:06 p.m. Sunday.
Oscar Zapata, 40, failed to negotiate the curve and lost control, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. His Mitsubishi Montero overturned down the embankment, ejecting Pablo Zapata from the vehicle.
Pablo Zapata was airlifted to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Oscar Zapata and 36-year-old Sonia Escalante suffered minor injuries.
The ramp reopened about four hours later.
