The daughter of Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz was involved in a fatal car crash Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at Southwest 8th Street and 89th Avenue about 12:30 p.m.
An 83-year-old man was driving northbound on SW 89th Avenue and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Tamiami Trail, says FHP. He then drove north across the eastbound lanes to enter the median break.
The man violated the right of way of 22-year-old Krystal Diaz, who FHP says is the commissioner's daughter. Diaz then hit the 83-year-old man's car, says FHP.
The man was killed in the crash. An 81-year-old woman also in his car is listed in critical condition at Kendal Regional Hospital.
Their names were not immediately released.
No charges were filed.
