DAVIE, Fla. -

An ATM was stolen and later dumped in a canal, police say.

The theft happened overnight Saturday in Pembroke Pines. The next day, someone told police about observing two people dump the broken ATM in a canal in west Davie.

Police said the witness directed investigators to the ATM and location of the truck.

Authorities said their investigation led them to a camper behind a residence in the 13300 block of SW 28th Street.

Two people were detained and one person remained in the camper.

After interviewing the two people, police said they obtained a search warrant, which was served by the Davie Police Special Response Team.

The last person came out without incident.

As of 8 p.m. Sunday, one person was in custody for possession of stolen property. The investigation is ongoing.
