The Florida Department of Transportation closes the southbound lanes of the Brickell Bridge for emergency repairs.

MIAMI -

The Florida Department of Transportation closed the southbound lanes of the Brickell Bridge for emergency repairs on Tuesday morning.

FDOT said the locking mechanism of the southbound span of the bridge was damaged during a test.

FDOT said that southbound traffic is currently being re-routed to eastbound SE 4th Street.

"I was coming that way and I looked and the bridge was completely closed," said Maria Barbara. "It's horrible."

The Brickell Bridge was built in 1915. He was replaced 18 years ago and widened in 2006.

The bridge is expected to be closed for several days.
