Family mourns pedestrian hit, killed

Police: Jonathan Eismann hit, killed Juan Carlos Ruiz

NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – A family mourns a husband and father who was hit and killed in a car crash on Wednesday morning while on his way to work.

Juan Carlos Ruiz, 29, was hit and killed as he waited for the bus along Northwest 72nd Avenue, just south of S.R. 836.

Police said the driver, Jonathan Eismann, 51, was fleeing the scene of another crash when he lost control of his SUV and jumped the curb, hitting Ruiz.

Eismann, a former chef and restaurateur in Miami, was injured when his SUV hit a power pole. He was treated and released from the hospital. Charges against him are pending.

Records show Eismann's neighbor bought his $3 million home on Venetian Isles and rescued the former chef from foreclosure but that Eismann still gets his mail there.

Ruiz's wife said she was planning a funeral for her husband.

Miami-Dade police are investigating.
