Family of beaten man asks for information in murder case

Max Lopez found beaten to death

MIAMI – The family of a man found beaten to death in an alleyway asks the public for help finding his killer.

Ernesto Blanco found the body of 55-year-old Max Lopez at 1512 W. Flagler Street on Dec. 8, 2012, and called police.

"I didn't see any injures or pools of blood," he said.

"He wasn't a man who went looking for trouble," said Melania Lopez, the victim's wife.

The case has stumped investigators, who have had few leads except for a single Crimestoppers tip that came in a few days after the murder.

"I need to speak to that person again," said Miami police detective Rolando Garcia. "Obviously, he can remain anonymous, but based off the information, he was present when the whole thing happened."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.

"I want to plead to the community to help us to know what exactly happened to my brother," said Jose Lopez.
