FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

A veteran Fort Lauderdale Police officer has been suspended for tweeting while on duty.

Officer Luis Pagan, a six-year veteran, had been under investigation for months after his bosses noticed his repeated tweeting.

Pagan shut down his Twitter account when the investigation began in October.

According to the South Florida Times, Pagan had exchanged raunchy tweets with porn stars and even criticized Fort Lauderdale Police Department brass on his Twitter feed.

"Officer Pagan has been placed on administrative leave with pay regarding an (Internal Affairs) investigation into his use of social media in accordance with FLPD’s social media policy," Detective Travis Mandell, spokesman for Fort Lauderdale, police said.

According to that policy, “Employees will not utilize any city-issued equipment to access personal social media sites, blogs, websites, or public forums while on duty, or while working off-duty details unless required in the performance of their duties."
