WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -

Lois Frankel, former mayor of West Palm Beach and longtime member of the Florida state legislature, defeated Broward commission vice mayor Kristin Jacobs to become the Democratic candidate in November's District 22 U.S House race.

Kristin Jacobs conceded the election, according to a campaign spokesperson.

The battle for Florida's 22nd Congressional district has become high-profile nationwide. The seat was historically a Republican stronghold, but since being redrawn, Democrats feel they have a shot at picking up a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Frankel will run against Republican Adam Hasner, former Florida House majority leader, in November.
