Friends donated toys and essentials to a family who lost their home in a fire a few days before Christmas.
The Rodriguez family lost all of the belongings at 15200 SW 184th Street when a fire tore through it Sunday morning. No one was injured in the fire.
On Wednesday, people made cash donations and brought gifts for the family.
"God has put this in our hearts and it's important for us to meet as much as we can the needs of this family," said Pastor Luis Couvertier, who organized the donation drive. "They're kids."
"He's my best friend. I care a lot about him, so now that he's going to come, I haven't talked to him in a while," said Otis Burgos, a classmate of Haender Rodriguez at Gladeview Christian School. "We got them phones so we can keep in touch now. For dad, for mom and for Haender."
"What matters is that we are okay," said Aymara Rodriguez, Haender's mother.
A previous donation drive raised about $3,000 for the family.
