LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -

A Southwest Florida great-grandfather said he heard a burglar breaking into his home so he grabbed a machete.

Lee County Sheriff’s deputies said Francisco Garcia, 75, heard someone knock on his front door in Lehigh Acres on Thursday.

Garcia did not answer and said he then heard the person try to open his windows and kick down his front door.

That’s when Garcia said he ran to his garage and grabbed a machete.

Garcia chased the alleged burglar who deputies said then tried to run him over with his car. Garcia wrote down his tag number.

Deputies conducted a search of the area and found the alleged burglar.

Kevin Dumas, 24, is charged with burglary and aggravated assault.
