Inspectors site several restuarants; roaches, rodents found

Slime in the ice machine, rodents, roaches and an employee touching money then food were just some of the violations recently found by State Inspectors with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Below is a list of the restaurants and some of the violations.
**PHILLY STEAK SUB SHOP III
8351 N.W. 12th Street

7 CRITICAL VIOLATIONS
"Observed roach activity as evidenced by live roaches found two under front counter area - one behind reach in freezer on the wall - one up on ceiling by cook line one - one on reach in freezer - 20 under water heater stand next to reach in freezer and preparation area."
"Observed dead roaches on premises. 5 behind reach in freezer."
"Observed employee engage in food preparation, handle clean equipment or utensils, or touch unwrapped single-service items, without washing hands after handling cash goes and puts vegetable on grill."
**LATIN EXPRESS CAFÉ
1611 N.W. 12TH AVENUE

4 CRITICAL VIOLATIONS
3 NON CRITICAL VIOLATIONS
"Observed roach activity as evidenced by 12 live roaches found. 5 live roaches were observed in the second food prep kitchen in the rear of the restaurant on wall, floor and food prep table, 7 more live roaches were observed at the front counter food (sandwich prep) station under the counter."
**EL BOHIO BAKERY CAFÉ
3243 N.W. 7TH STREET

"Observed rodent activity as evidenced by rodent droppings found. 50 plus fresh rodent dropping found inside cooking range oven in the kitchen. 70 plus dry droppings in cooking range oven."
"Observed the presence of insects, rodents, or other pests. dead rodent found on glue trap inside the cooking range oven in the kitchen."

5 NON CRITICAL VIOLATIONS
"Observed buildup of slime in the interior of ice machine."
"Observed buildup of slime on soda dispensing nozzles."
"Observed roach activity as evidenced by 30 plus live roaches found inside non-working reach in cooler located at food preparation area."
Miami Subs issued the following statement Monday afternoon:
“Miami Subs takes the health and safety of its customers very seriously. This is the first violation for this location since under new ownership.
Violations were immediately corrected and the restaurant was approved by the Health Department to reopen the next morning.
As an active preventative measure, Miami Subs has increased food safety precautions and measures in all of its franchise owned restaurants.”
