“First of all…”

“I realize…”

“Skinny…”

“Consequence…”

“Shakira…”

Just some of the words and names that came out of my daughter’s mouth on the way to school this morning. The best was that some of the words, like “consequence,” “realize,” and “skinny” she was using incorrectly. It was really cute.

I know skinny may seem like an easy one, but I’m avoiding that word all the time.

She’s petite and people constantly tell her she’s so skinny! I’m terrified of body image issues with girls so I have never taken the time to explain what “skinny” means. All she knows is that I’m not a fan of the word and I don’t like her saying “fat” either.

The other day I put on a dress and she said, “Mommy, that dress is skinny.”

Under most circumstances that would be flattering, but I’m proud to say she has no clue what “skinny” really is, and I’m going to try and keep it that way as long as possible.
