Judge denies bond again to woman charged with stabbing husband

Blanca Regalado charged with stabbing 'drunk' husband

MIAMI – A Miami-Dade County Circuit Court judge again denied bond to a woman charged with stabbing her husband six times.

Blanca Regalado was back in front of Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat Tuesday morning, with her defense attorney Patricia Jones, who asked that her client receive bond. That request, however, was denied.

"Your honor, to my knowledge that is a bondable offense," said Jones. "To my knowledge, there is a standard bond of $10,000 for that charge."

"As for the request of bond, it is denied. The defendant remains with no bond," replied Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat.

Regalado's hands were shaking, but she was calm and apologized for her behavior in court Monday.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry," she told Rodriguez-Chomat.

"I want you to listen," he said. "Don't say anything, just listen, okay?"

Regalado nodded her head in response.

According to an arrest affidavit, police responded to an apartment at 1800 N. Bayshore Drive in Miami on Saturday in reference to a stabbing. When officers arrived, fire rescue was transporting Regalado's husband to Jackson Memorial Hospital after he suffered six stab wounds to his upper abdomen, right arm, and right leg.

Inside the victim's apartment, Regalado told police, "I did it. My husband is a drunk. I'm tired of him and I stabbed him," according to the affidavit. She also told police her husband becomes aggressive when he drinks and that she prepared a Swiss Army knife in her dresser for the next time they fought.

Regalado's husband was listed in serious condition Monday. When an officer told her that her husband would be okay, Regalado reportedly replied, "No, I want him dead."

She first appeared in bond court Monday.

"You are being charged with attempted felony murder," said Rodriguez-Chomat. "Do you have money for a private attorney?"

Regalado appeared confused when asked.

"Let's relax. Just answer my question. Do you have money for a private attorney?" Rodriguez-Chomat asked again.

"Si," she responded.

But when Rodriguez-Chomat told her she would be held without bond, Regalado began screaming.

"Please no! No, don't do that! Don't do that to me! My husband broke my leg!" she yelled. "Please! No! No! No!"

Regalado had to be restrained in her wheelchair. She has a cast up to her knee, but it's unclear how she was injured.

Her attorney isn't saying anything about that allegation or the possibility of domestic disputes between the couple.

"I'm not going to make any comments in regard to what the case may consist of or not consist of, the merits of the case, at this time," said Jones. "I know that we were just retained in this matter so we shall see how the case unfolds."

Jones said she plans on asking for another bond hearing.

Rodriguez-Chomat declined comment about the incident Monday.
