MIAMI -

Local 10 anchors Calvin Hughes and Jen Herrera are on their way to Cuba to cover the pope's visit next week.

WPLG is the only station in South Florida being allowed to cover the papal visit, and getting the six-member crew visas was no easy task.

The Cuban government rarely grants U.S. journalists access to the communist country. All the other television news stations had their requests denied.

"It was a lot of legwork. Just days ago, those visas finally came in the mail," said Herrera while in line waiting to check in for her flight.

There were seven flights out of Miami International Airport to Havana on Thursday.
