FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 25th annual Las Olas Art Fair opened Saturday morning in Fort Lauderdale with 300 artists displaying their masterpieces. Thousands are expected to attend and view their work, which will be on display until Sunday night at 5 p.m.
The weekend festival is free to attend. Prices of artwork range from as little as $25 to as much as $30,000.
It is being held from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday along Las Olas Boulevard, between SW 6th & 11th Avenues.
This year's artists represent 30 different states and several countries. April Smith has been selling her work at the festival for 10 years. She set up a display of her large-scale paintings along Las Olas Boulevard before the show opened on Saturday morning.
"It's one of the best shows in the area," she told Local 10's Ben Kennedy.
This weekend's event is Part I of a two part series, organized by festival promoter Howard Alan. The second part will be held in Fort Lauderdale the weekend of March 2-3, 2013.
"Usually when people walk through the Howard Alan events, they're like wow this is really good art and they're really impressed," artist Christine Green said. "I love it, they just walk by and they smile, it's really great."
