FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

Police arrested a man who reportedly attacked a police officer at a Food Plus Store on Davie Boulevard Tuesday night.

Two Food Plus Store workers called police around 10:30 p.m. to report Jermetrius Deveaux, 23, was trespassing and creating a disturbance at the store. When the officer arrived, he told Deveaux that he would be arrested if he did not leave.

According to police, Deveaux then attacked the officer until the two store clerks came to his aid. They held Deveaux down until back-up officers arrived at the scene.

Fort Lauderdale police arrested Deveaux and commended the workers on their quick and courageous response. Neither of them were hurt.

The officer was hospitalized and is receiving treatment for either a broken leg or ankle. His name has not been released.

Deveaux is facing charges of resisting arrest and battery of an officer.
