FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department announced charges against a man accused in a 1997 murder case after his fingerprints were matched to ones found at the crime scene.

Samuel Washington is charged with first-degree murder in Darrial Rollins' death.

Police say Rollins was found stabbed to death inside her apartment at 1033 NW 6th Street on May 6, 1997.

Police recovered fingerprints at the apartment but were never able to identify them until Washington was arrested for an unrelated charge, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

Police say Washington's fingerprint matched those found at the apartment.

When detectives showed Washington that his fingerprints were found there, he reportedly said "That doesn't look good for me," and requested an attorney, police say.
