Man charged in dog snatching appears in court

Wilfredo Torres accused of stealing t-cup Yorkie

MIAMI – A man charged with stealing a t-cup Yorkie made his first appearance in court Tuesday morning.

Police arrested Wilfredo Torres on Monday and charged him with grand theft, accessory after the fact, and dealing in stolen property.

Torres stole Monster, a t-cup Yorkie, from outside Mykonos Greek restaurant on Southwest 22nd Street in Miami last Wednesday, police say.

Athina Kafouros, who owns Monster, said she went inside the restaurant where she works and left the dog on a chair at an outdoor table. When she returned, she said Monster was gone.

When police arrested Torres on Monday, they found Monster and reunited him with Kafouros.

Torres was not released on bond. The judge asked that he return to court Wednesday for a probable cause hearing.
