LAKEWOOD CREST, Fla. -

The 12-year-old daughter of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio was airlifted to Miami Children's Hospital after a golf cart accident Saturday.

Rubio spokesman Alex Conant said Sunday that Amanda Rubio is undergoing neurological testing. Conant says the long-term prognosis is positive for the senator's oldest daughter who suffered a head injury.

According a statement released by the senator's office, Amanda was a passenger on a golf cart involved in a collision in a private gated community while she was visiting with classmates.

The 12-year-old was airlifted to the hospital, where she was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit.

Local 10's Christina Vasquez spoke with Miami-Dade Commissioner Rebeca Sosa about the girl's condition at Miami Children's Hospital just before 9 p.m. Saturday.

Sosa said Rubio was praying for his daughter at her bedside.

"He was there next to his daughter, which is the most important part," said Sosa.

Sosa said Amanda (pictured with her parents below) told her father, "I love you, daddy."

The Republican senator was notified of the accident while coming off stage after a rally with GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney Saturday afternoon.

The senator campaigned with Romney at two Florida rallies on Saturday and was scheduled to attend a third before being picked up by a state police cruiser along Romney's motorcade route.

Rubio has received an outpouring of support after the accident, including a personal message from Romney and calls from both President Obama and Vice President Biden, Rubio's spokesman said.
