Meet Broward County's first baby of 2013

Kholie Kemp born approximately at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ Two generations of parents made headlines Tuesday as the first baby in 2013 was born in Broward County.

Kholie Kemp was born at approximately 12:02 a.m. Tuesday at Broward Health Medical Center. She weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and is 20 inches long.

However, the delivery didn't happen though until after her mother, Jessica Wilson, and grandmother, Lasandra Davenport, battled it out.

Doctors said that Wilson was ready to give birth almost thirty minutes before the stroke of midnight, but it was Davenport who told her to hold on until the new year arrived.

"My water broke at 11:30," said Wilson.

"She wanted to start pushing, but I kept telling her 'No,'" said Davenport.

"I wanted her out bad," said Wilson.

"I was like, don't push, don't push, don't push," said Davenport. "I was so excited...As soon as the nurse said on the computer it was 12:00, I said 'Ok, you can push now!'"

Wilson told Local 10's Jeff Weinsier that if it wasn't for her determined mother, her baby would have been the last baby born in 2012, not the first in 2013.

The family hopes Kholie Kemp's 1st place finish in 2013 of Broward Health is a sign of things to come.
