HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -

A metal piece of a bridge on Florida's Turnpike came loose Tuesday afternoon, flattening tires and forcing temporary repairs.

The bridge angle, which is placed into joints to protect concrete, came out of its place in the northbound lanes between Hollywood Boulevard and Griffin Road about 1:30 p.m., said the Florida Department of Transportation.

Several cars hit it but there were no crashes.

Temporary repairs shut down two lanes until crews finished about 3 p.m. Permanent repairs are planned during overnight hours later this week.
