Fleet Week Port Everglades 2013 is still a go despite having no U.S. Navy ships scheduled to appear because of automatic spending cuts instituted by the federal government.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

Fleet Week Port Everglades 2013 is still a go despite having no U.S. Navy ships scheduled to appear because of automatic spending cuts instituted by the federal government.

"There will be no ships traveling to any of the ports around the country," said Mary Anne Gray, the executive director of Broward Navy Days. "I don't know when it's ever happened before, truthfully."

Gray said Fleet Week would instead focus on local commands, including the Coast Guard and recruiting stations.

"We are hoping for more ships and Canadian ships are already on the schedule for next year," said Gray.

Organizers had already planned for fewer ships compared to 2012.

The Navy's air forces also announced Tuesday it had canceled the remainder of the elite Blue Angels demonstration team's 2013 season.

Fleet Week Port Everglades 2013 is scheduled from April 29 through May 6.
