Ocean erodes sidewalk along A1A in Ft. Lauderdale, causes traffic headache

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ Parts of A1A in Ft. Lauderdale have collapsed. High tide caused waves to crash through the sea wall knocking down trees, lights and sidewalks.

"The street signs, the lights, the towers, everything is just caving in," said Raymond Guimond.

Guimond and his family hit the street and built a sand sea turtle in the middle of the road.

"Amazing, mother nature," said Guimond.

The city hopes blocks of barriers stop the water, but despite their efforts the ocean continues to devour parts of A1A creating a traffic nightmare for drivers.

"Were trying to figure out what Ft. Lauderdale will be like know, where is our beach?," asked Elaine Krupnick.

Jon and Elaine Krupnick have lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 50 years and have never seen things this bad.

"It's all together different, has a whole different feel," said Jon Krupnick.
