People rush to buy new Air Jordans

Shoes stolen from Foot Locker store in Miami Gardens

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – People lined up at stores throughout South Florida Friday to try and buy the latest edition of the Nike Air Jordan sneakers.

But the people who lined up outside the door of a Foot Locker store in Miami Gardens were out of luck.

Overnight Friday, burglars broke into the store and stole dozens of boxes of the new shoes, leaving people like Devon Jenrette shoeless even though he pre-purchased his pair for $185.

"She just told me that if they get some more shoes she'll give me a call," said Jenrette.

The new sneakers are among the hottest items out there ahead of Christmas. The high tops sell at nearly $200 a pair.

People also lined up outside the Southland Mall on Friday morning. Miami-Dade Police were called in to clear the crowd out.

"They started moving the cage and they never opened and then police came in and everybody said get out," said Jose Martinez.

There were no arrests or injuries.

By noon, most stores had sold out of the sneakers.
