Police: Girl, 2, dies after being pulled from pool
A two-year-old girl died after being pulled from a community pool near her home in Deerfield Beach Saturday, according to authorities.
Police said the girl was found in the pool shortly after she was reported missing.
Julianna Lacerda walked out of her house without the knowledge of her mother, police said. Moments later, when Lacerda's father arrived home, he noticed she was not in the house, investigators said.
Authorities said the parents began looking for the child and called 911 to report her missing.
According to investigators, Lacerda's father eventually found the 2-year-old inside the pool. Police said he attempted to perform CPR on the girl, but she was unresponsive.
When rescue crews arrived, officials tried to unsuccessfully resuscitate the toddler, authorities said. Lacerda was flown to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Police are investigating the case, but they said foul play is not suspected.
The Broward County Medical Examiner's office has yet to confirm the cause of death, which is presumed to be drowning, officials said.
